Why Experience Matters: The Importance of Seeing a Doctor for Your Pain
The hallmark of any good pain management practice is to make sure that each patient gets the qualified and experienced care they need. Seeing a physician for your pain is important and here’s why.

Thanks to an aging population, millions of people in the United States are in pain: nearly one-quarter of adults report chronic pain, and a lot of this burden is due to musculoskeletal issues. On top of the surprisingly large number of people who are struggling with chronic pain, millions more are dealing with acute pain.

Whether your pain is temporary or it’s settled in for the long haul, the team here at Apex Pain Specialists, with Dr. Maziar Massrour and Dr. Naveen Reddy at the helm, has the tools, resources, and experience you need to find relief.

Not only is our practice devoted to finding ways for people to live and move without pain, we also believe that each patient deserves the attention of an experienced doctor. Here’s why.

Nurse practitioners vs. doctors

Our team includes nurse practitioners whom we rely on quite a lot. Each member of our team, no matter their medical qualification, is integral to our mission to support patients and to make sure that their needs are met.

That said, we do believe that each patient should reap the benefit of seeing a doctor during their visit for several reasons:

  • Doctors attend four years of medical school on top of undergrad work
  • Doctors get specialized training in their fields
  • Doctors go through intensive residency and subspecialty training

It’s this last point that we want to expand a little here: training and experience. During a physician’s residency training and rotation, they rack up an impressive number of patient-care hours in all settings, between 12,000 and 16,000 hours. This is opposed to 500–750 training hours for nurse practitioners.

So, in training alone, you can see that doctors undergo a far more rigorous program than nurse practitioners, training and experience that they bring to each patient.

In-practice experience

While the intensive and comprehensive training that both Dr. Massrour and Dr. Reddy went through provides the foundation for their top-notch care, their experience here at Apex also contributes.

Our years of helping patients overcome everything from joint pain due to arthritis to back and neck pain have informed us very well. We have a combined depth of working knowledge — more than three decades! — that we bring to each patient to help them find relief.

Getting to your pain relief more quickly

Another benefit of seeing a doctor for each of your visits is that we can work more quickly toward your pain relief. Not only do we have the experience to more readily identify what’s behind your pain and how to treat it, we can get the whole process moving more quickly.

Again, we’re proud of our entire team and they can all play a role in helping you get to the other side of your discomfort. When you combine this great team with physician-focused care, the results are even better.
